THE tarring of the multi-million Kwacha Bottom Road in Southern Province, has reached Gwembe District from Siavonga.
The road, which connects Chirundu, Siavonga, Gwembe, Sinazongwe and Livingstone districts, would have about 21 bridges and culverts because of the streams in the region.
Gwembe District Commissioner Alice Mwiinga said the road was among many infrastructure projects to improve the delivery of social services and economic development in the province.
In an interview yesteday, Ms Mwiinga said the strech of Bottom road from Siavonga towards Munyumbwe area in Gwembe has already been tarred.
“The Bottom road project has reached an advanced stage and right now, the tarring and clearing of this road from Siavonga has reached Munyumbwe area in Gwembe,” she said.
She said, once the road network was completely tarred, it would ease the movement of people particularly those residing in the valley areas of Siavonga and Gwembe.
Meanwhile, Government has upgraded two basic schools into secondary schools in Gwembe while construction of phase-one Munyumbwe High School, has been completed.
Ms Mwiinga said the upgrading and construction of more high schools in Gwembe, a mountainous district, would accelerate provision of quality education to pupils.
On agriculture sector, Government had allocated huge sums of money to construct 10 modern dams to increase access of water in the remotest areas of the district.
Ms Mwiinga said, the dams would provide livestock with access to water especially during dry spells.
A contractor had also been awarded a contract by Government to build 10 rural health posts in Gwembe among the 650 which were being constructed across the country.
She said the people of Gwembe were happy with President Edgar Lungu’s leadership for the commitment to uplift their living standards.
