The Government will finance the procurement of grading equipment for the Zambia National Service (ZNS) to facilitate the grading of roads in the rural areas aimed at improving access to markets.
Finance Minister Alexander Chikwanda disclosed that plans were underway to finance the procurement of equipment for ZNS meant for the grading of rural roads.
Addressing Journalists in Lusaka, Mr Chikwanda pointed out that equipping ZNS with graders would facilitate the movement of produce from one area to another, as well as improve agriculture marketing.
“In the mid of this year, we will equip ZNS with the equipment in order for them to be able to grade roads in rural areas across the country so as to facilitate movement of produce and facilitate agriculture marketing,” Mr Chikwanda said.
He said the development would help improve the state of infrastructure in the country thereby enhance economic growth.
Mr Chikwanda said it was important to point out that improvement in the economy was very much linked to infrastructure.
He said currently development was hampered by lack of infrastructure, which made it difficult for the movement of produce.
