FEMALE national record holder Tilka Paljk, will lead the Zambian contingent at the 2015 CANA Zone Four Swimming Championships to be staged in Angola in May.
The provisional team announced by the Zambia Amateur Swimming Union (ZASU) also has the likes of Jade Howard, Nakawele Sakala, Alexandros Axiotis, Ralph Goveia, Kumaren Naidu, Mumba Ngosa and Ryan Bouverie among others.
ZASU midlands representative, Tinky Naidu said yesterday that Zambia was targeting a podium finish at the 13th edition of the event that would be held on May 6 to 9 at Luanda Swimming Pool.
The championship will see Zambia compete for honours against Uganda, Angola, Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
“We are looking forward to winning the competition in Angola. After all, we minted bronze in Uganda and I think this time around, we will go for gold,” Naidu said.
She said ZASU would next weekend stage the national age group championships at the 90 Days Legacy Swimming pool at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Naidu said the championship would be used as selection trials for the final team that would compete at the CANA Championships.
“The swimmers have been training hard but we are going to pick a team during our national championship,” she said.
Meanwhile, Naidu said ZASU was still weighing the possibility of taking part at the 2015 All-Africa Games (AAG) in Brazzaville, Congo.
She said this was because Zambia would be competing in the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games billed for September 5 to 11 in Samoa.
