POLICE in Livingstone have uncovered a hideout for criminals and recovered stolen goods valued at K49, 900.
The recovered items are six plasma Television (TV) sets, three ordinary TV sets, four laptops, one carpet, cutting metal objects, a fake pistol, gas stove, four speakers, an upright fridge, one bicycle, one boat engine, bed sheets and blanket.
Southern Province Police chief Mary Chikwanda confirmed the development in Livingstone on Wednesday.
Ms Chikwanda said the various items, which were currently being displayed at Dambwa Central Police, were recovered from Dambwa Central and Linda townships in Livingstone within a period of one month.
She said seven suspects had been apprehended and some of them were already appearing in court, while others were still on the run.
“These criminals had a hideout shelter at the waste dumpsite off Lusaka Road in Elaine Britel Township.
“Each time they stole, they would go to the hideout and not to their homes for fear of being arrested. We have since destroyed this sanctuary,” she said.
Ms Chikwanda said the police managed to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen items because of intensified Police patrols and tips from members of the public.
“I would like to thank members of the community in Livingstone for working closely with the police to remove criminal elements in the city.
