ZESCO Limited has launched a safety management system which will ensure safety of employees in their duty.
The Safety, Health, Environmental Protection and Quality (SHEQ) initiative aims to address high accidents and poor quality of work recorded in some areas of the power utility company’s operations by safeguarding its employees and clients.
A Zesco employee in Monze District was last month allegedly electrocuted while working on a transformer on the Monze-Livingstone power lines.
Zesco SHEQ representative Daniel Sichela said in Choma on Tuesday during launch of SHEQ initiative, that sustainable safety, occupational health and environmental management were essential for employees.
“For visionary leadership is what makes the difference between successful organisations and those that fail,” he said.
Mr Sichela said SHEQ was a significant initiative by Zesco management in providing excellent service delivery to its employees and clients.
“We are certain that with support of management and our dedication, this is attainable,” he said.
Zesco Choma area manager Lameck Daka said the launch of SHEQ was key in addressing a number of accidents and health related matters affecting the company’s workers.
Mr Daka said a clear conscious on the workers’ safety and health related issues would essentially result into improved output for the power utility company.
He was confident that SHEQ initiative would courage a change of mindsets for the employees to enable Zesco continue producing more desirable results for the clients.
