PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has called on the Church to guide the country in realising the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation.
The President said this in a speech read for him by acting President Ngosa Simbyakula during a dinner for members of Parliament (MPs) and judges organised by the Bible Society of Zambia.
“I want to urge the Church and the Bible Society to lead the way in guiding the nation in realising the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation,” Mr Lungu said.
The Head of State said the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation would only be realised if the Church took centre stage in its role.
Mr Lungu also called on the Church to support the Bible Society of Zambia in translating and distributing Bibles so that people could be transformed by the renewing of their minds.
The President further urged the Bible Society to play its role in transforming the lives of Zambians.
“We all know that spirituality and morality go hand-in-hand and this can only be sustained if Christian values through the Bible are inculcated in the majority of our people,” he said.
Bible Society of Zambia president Teddy Mulonga said the organisation wanted to contribute to the realisation of Zambia as a Christian Nation.
Mr Mulonga also called on Parliamentarians, Supreme and High Court judges to support the Society to enable it translate more Bibles.
The dinner was also attended by Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska, Cabinet and deputy ministers as well as senior Government officials.
