POLICE in Lusaka have arrested a 27-year-old woman of Kaunda Square Stage II for assault after she bit her husband all over his body.
Police assistant spokesperson, Rae Haamoonga said Lillian Traper, who has been charged with assault, was picked up by the police after a tip from members of the public.
Mr Haamoonga said the woman was apprehended last week and is currently in custody at Munali Police Post.
The woman, who is seven years older than her husband, had been biting him for unknown reasons.
“When the police checked the husband, they found that he had teeth bites all over his body,” Mr Haamoonga said.
In another incident, four men have allegedly beaten to death a 42-year-old mentally challenged woman of Kafue Village in Sikongo District of Western Province.
The woman’s brother, Evans Mundia told ZANIS that the incident happened in the early hours of yesterday in Nangoma Village. Mr Mundia identified the deceased as Ngebe Simakando.
Ms Ngebe apparently went to Nangoma Village at night singing, which angered the suspects who pounced on her.
Three of the four suspects aged between 16 and 22 years have since been apprehended and handed over to the police while the other suspect is on the run.
The body of the deceased is lying in Kalabo District Hospital mortuary awaiting a postmortem.
Meanwhile, the Drug-Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested three Tanzanians in Muchinga Province for trafficking in psychotropic substances.
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said this in a statement issued in Lusaka yesterday.
She said those arrested were Vincent Musa, 27, a driver of Songeya area in Tunduma for trafficking in miraa and Francis David, 31, a business person of Chiyanga Village in Nakonde District.
Ms Katongo said also arrested was Ephraim Luwanga, 19, of the same village for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing more than 18 grammes. The Commission has also arrested several peasant farmers for unlawful cultivation and trafficking in various quantities of cannabis.
Ms Katongo said among the arrested in Mpulungu District were Mulenga Singoma, 25, Boniface Sinkonde, 27 and Ben Sikatali, 35, all peasant farmers of Kapondwe Village for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 350 kilogrammes.
She said others were Maybin Chisambwe, 36, of Kasamba area in Kabompo District for unlawful cultivation of cannabis weighing 38kg while Simon Sibeya, 33, of Kalambo Village was nabbed in Mbala District for trafficking in loose cannabis weighing 13 kilogrammes.
Ms Katongo said the DEC arrested Roderick Musema, 32, a business person of Katombi Village in Mwinilunga District for trafficking in 4 kilogrammes of loose cannabis.
Others are Misheck Chibwe, 39, of Mumbuto Village in Mwansabombwe for trafficking in compressed cannabis weighing 9.15 kilogrammes.
She said also arrested was Rueben Mwanza, 28, from of Katasha Village in Lundazi in Eastern Province for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis weighing 116 kilogrammes. All the suspects will appear in court soon.
