CHAMPIONS Red Arrows will today be aiming for maximum points to take over league leadership when they host Mufulira in a Week Two fixture of the Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) National Rugby League (NRL).
It was Green Eagles who took command of the log after opening days matches thanks to a 31-3 thrashing of Prison Leopards to be on five points while Arrows and ‘Men At Work’ Diggers are on four points but in second and third places respectively.
Eagles are out of action today as their opponents ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka are out in Zimbabwe taking part in an international tournament at the invitation of Old Hararians.
Arrows v Mufulira
Arrows are favourites to wrap up maximum points and possibly a bonus point off Mufulira when the two sides clash at the Yotam Muleya Grounds in the Lusaka Showgrounds.
The champions kicked off their campaign with a 24-13 win away to Chibuluma and the airmen will be looking at building at that momentum to consolidate their post early in the season.
Arrows will look up to the likes of Terry Kaushiku, Simon Kapindu and Emmanuel Daka for the victory but must be wary of the threat Mufulira might pose after they held Lusaka to a 3-all draw.
Diggers v Chibuluma
Coach Robertson ‘Plough’ Kang’ongwe will be expecting a lot from Diggers today after the former champions laboured to beat Nkwazi 3-0 in Lusaka in the Week One fixture.
This match promises to be a tough but exciting encounter as it brings two sides that play some good rugby though on paper odds hugely favour Diggers to comfortably wrap up maximum points and perhaps with a bonus point.
Chibuluma will be aiming to recover from their defeat against Arrows but will need to be at their best to snatch anything from the Kitwe.
Nkwazi v Prisons
Nkwazi put up an amazing run last season that saw them enjoy top slot for some good weeks until Arrows popped up from nowhere to grab the title in what was an exciting 2014 season for the ‘policemen’ despite the chaotic end of the ZRU season marred with a lot of postponements.
The midlands side lead the table but were overtaken by Arrows who had some four good games in hands but today’s match provides Nkwazi with an opportunity to recover from last week defeat and earn their first win.
Prisons face yet another difficult task in their bid to remain in the elite league having won promotion from the B league last season.
Last week whipping at the hands of Eagles might come back to haunt them against a Nkwazi side that boosts of quality players.
