GOVERNMENT has disbursed more than K400,000 to youth groups in Kitwe District under the Programme for Youth Entrepreneurship in 2014.
Kitwe District Commissioner (DC) Elias Kamanga said the funds were disbursed in 2014 and benefited various youth enterprises.
Mr Kamanga said yesterday that the programme which was Government’s initiative was aimed at ensuring that young entrepreneurs in the district were empowered.
He said the youth were the majority hence the need for them to be helped through the empowerment fund to help foster development in Zambia.
Mr Kamanga, however, was concerned with a number of youths that were not paying back the loan after the agreed time frame.
He said it was worrying that some youth groups were going against rules governing the empowerment scheme by not paying back the loans.
The DC urged the youth groups that have not paid back to do so, for the money to benefit other youth groups seeking empowerment funds.
He said the Government would do everything in pursuing those youth groups that have not paid the money back.
Mr Kamanga appealed to young people to take responsibility and use the money for the intended purpose.
