FRANCE has committed eight million Euros to agriculture and waste management in Zambia, French Ambassador to Zambia Emmanuel Cohet has said.
Mr Cohet made the pronouncement at a meeting held with Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) president
Evelyn Nguleka, and senior management officials at the Union offices in Lusaka.
According to the ZNFU website, Mr Cohet said France was working on the eight million Euro fund earmarked for agriculture and waste management in bigger cities in the country.
He visited the Union to acquaint himself with its operations and the activities in agriculture from the farmers’ perspective.
He said France was interested in increasing investment in agriculture and trade as well as maintaining international cooperation with Zambia.
Mr Cohet also said France had planned for business delegation visits to Zambia during the course of the year.
“We have planned for delegations to visit Zambia during the course of the year. Firstly it would be an agriculture delegation, followed by a trade and investment delegation. The agriculture delegation had
expressed keen interest in the upcoming farming blocs in Zambia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Nguleka emphasized the need to explore possibilities of cooperation with French banks on financing agriculture and other investment areas in the country.
She said the Union was ready to work with French firms to boost the agriculture sector.
“I must emphasize on the need to explore possibilities of cooperation with French banks on financing agriculture and other investment areas in the country. The union pledges to work with French firms to boost the agriculture sector in Zambia,” Dr Nguleka said.
