AS KALOUM are irked with the state of their training venue, Trade Fair Grounds, ahead of Saturday’s CAF 2015 Champions League first round first leg match against Zesco United.
Coach Francois Zahoui described the Trade Fair Grounds pitch, which is Zesco’s home turf, as unsuitable for his team’s preparations ahead of the match.
Kaloum arrived in the country on Monday, five days prior to the game, and held its training session yesterday at the Trade Fair Grounds.
Zahoui, however, said during a press briefing yesterday that his charges will not be distracted by a poor pitch in their quest to advance to the next stage of the competition.
Zahoui said Kaloum will not use the poor training pitch as a scapegoat if Saturday’s result does not favour his team because the players are ready for the challenge.
He said his squad will be looking forward to maintaining their record away from home having beaten Sewe Sport of Ivory Coast 2-1 in Abidjan before advancing to the first round with a 1-1 draw at home.
Zahoui said playing Zesco will relive the memories of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations final that saw Zambia beat Ivory Coast on penalties to win the continental championship.
Meanwhile, Striker Jimmy Ndhlovu has made Power Dynamos’ 20-member team that flies out to Gabon today ahead of this weekend’s 2015 CAF Confederation Cup first round, first leg game against CF Mounana.
Ndhlovu missed last Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Zesco United in the 2015 Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield final played at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe due to injury.
Coach Tenant Chilumba has virtually kept his faith in the same line-up that he fielded in the 2-nil home win against Al Khartoum on March 1 including two-goal hero in that match Alex Ngonga.
Power team manager Lombe Chipupu said the team will fly out this afternoon from Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola for Libreville via Addis Ababa.
