THE waiving of visa and visa fees by the Government for Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) nationals on official business in Zambia is a welcome development that will boost the economy.
Sectors particularly trade and tourism will score major benefits from this move as the country will have a comparative advantage against countries which have also waived visa requirements.
Government should now look at the prospect of waiving visa requirements for people from other regions to make Zambia more competitive in areas of trade and tourism.
Zesco on course
Briefcase is pleased to note that projects by Zesco to boost electricity supply have advanced in most parts of the country.
The recently completed upgrading of the 15 Megawatts Lunzua power station in Northern Province at a cost of K52 million, is one such project that will contribute to industrial activity in the area.
This will ultimately encourage value addition and promote the creation of jobs and wealth for the people.
