Chibuluma 13 Arrows 24
CHAMPIONS Red Arrows started the 2015 National Rugby League (NRL) season on a winning note after beating their hosts Chibuluma in a Week One fixture in Kalulushi.
There were also wins for former champions ‘Men At Work’ Diggers and Green Eagles while ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka were held to a draw by resurgent Mufulira during the matches played at the weekend.
Edward Mumba, Simon Kapindu and Emmanuel Daka all scored a try with Terry Kaushiku making the three conversions before he added a penalty as Arrows ran riot at the Chibuluma Rugby Field in Kalulushi.
Kenny Bwalya failed to convert the two tries by Mwamba Kabeya and Benson Chileshe but made up by scoring a penalty though his effort was not enough to save Chibuluma from suffering their first loss of the season.
Nkwazi 0 Diggers 3
Diggers had a difficult away trip in Lusaka where they laboured to beat a determined Nkwazi and had to rely on a Patrick Chanda’s penalty to carry four points back to Kitwe.
Lusaka 3 Mufulira 3
Lusaka started their season on a low note after being held to a draw by stubborn Mufulira to remain two points behind Arrows, Eagles and Diggers.
The match played at the Lusaka Rugby Club saw the home side score a penalty through Israel Kalumba as Miselo Chanda equally scored to ensure that two sides shared spoils.
Meanwhile, the other match played saw Eagles whitewash Prisons 31-3 in a Kabwe derby.
