THREE brothers in Mazabuka have died after a riverbank collapsed and buried them alive during a fishing expedition on the Magoye River.
Malambo Chimbololo, 33, Habanji Chimbololo, 12, and Mike Chimbololo, 12, of Chimbololo Village in Chief Mwanachingwa’s area, met their fate in the afternoon on Thursday last week.
Southern Province Assistant Police Chief, Kashif Mphande confirmed the incident in an interview yesterday.
Mr Mphande said the three went for fishing on the Magoye River and later decided to catch fish underneath the riverbank.
He said the trio could have decided to catch fish underneath the river bank because a lot of fish could have been around that area.
“While they were fishing at the bottom of the riverbank, it collapsed and fell on them at once,” he said.
Mr Mphande said police rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the bodies which are lying in the Mazabuka General Hospital awaiting post-mortem and burial.
In the same district on Thursday around 17:00 hours, Judith Nkamu, of Chula Township was stabbed with a knife by her husband, Sipalu Namasiku during a marital dispute.
Mr Mphande said that Mr Namasiku allegedly used a knife to stab his wife.
Police have arrested Mr Namasiku and charged him with unlawful wounding.
