MONICA Chimese and Ethel Mambwe won first prize in their respective girls’ categories at the just-ended 2015 Dunlop Menlopark Junior Squash Open in Pretoria.
The duo were part of the four-member Nkana Squash Club junior team that entered for the three-day event that ended on Sunday in South Africa where Zambia’s envoy in the Under-19 boys event Preston Mhango reach the semi-finals.
Nkana junior team coach Fred Chishimba said from Pretoria that he was pleased with his team’s overall performance.
Chimese finished top in the Girls A section played on round-robin match-up finishing on 15 points, two ahead of Nothando Ntimane and Anele Ngubane.
Mambwe won the Girls B section with 10 points while Jess Mcdonald finished runner-up on seven points.
Meanwhile, Mhango lost 3-2 in the semi-finals to runner Barry Coetzee to finish the Under-19 tournament on four points, one behind his opponent.
Cuar Vertiage who beat Mhango 3-2 on Saturday won the Under-19 boys section with seven points while Zambian Obby Lengwe finished sixth.
