A ZAMBIA Revenue Authority (ZRA) customs officer has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Lusaka for corrupt practices involving K40,000.
Gilbert Keembe Mainza, 45, of house number 7758 Woodlands Extension, in Lusaka has been charged with two counts of corrupt practices by a public officer contrary to Section 19 of the Anti-Corruption Act.
ACC public relations manager Timothy Moono confirmed the arrest of Mr Mainza in a Press statement released in Lusaka yesterday.
Mr Moono said Mr Mainza had been released on police bond and would appear in court soon.
In the first count, Mr Mainza, while working as a customs officer at the ZRA Lusaka port office, between February 1 and February 18, 2015 in the company of others corruptly solicited for a sum of K 40,000.
Mr Mainza actually received K6,000 cash gratification from Peter Hatuma through his nephew Ndima Kalituta as a reward or inducement for him to facilitate the clearance of Timber for Silbrand Trading and Assante and Associates.
In the second count, Mr Mainza, between the same dates with others corruptly solicited for a sum of K40,000 and actually received K10,000 cash gratification from Peter Hatuma as a reward or inducement for him to facilitate the clearance of Timber for Silbrand Trading and Assante and Associates.
