THE Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has cancelled the proposed Chipolopolo monthly camping.
FAZ vice president, Boniface Mwamelo said the monthly camping has been put off as it will overstretch the association coffers owing to the Zambia Under-20 and 23 teams that are preparing for their respective engagements.
Mwamelo said FAZ already has the Under 20 team in camp preparing for the Senegal 2015 Africa Youth Championship while the Under-23 side will be regrouping soon for the Congo Brazzaville 2015 All Africa Games qualifiers.
“We can’t have all the teams camped at once because it will strain us financially, so for now we will concentrate on the teams that are going for competitions,” Mwamelo said.
Mwamelo added that most players that would be called for the Chipolopolo monthly camping will come from the same Under 20 and 23 sides that are preparing for their respective championships.
He said getting players from these teams will disturb the coaches training programmes because they will have to prepare without some players.
“We have players overlapping among the three teams and if coach Honour Janza calls camp now it will disturb programme. So I feel it would be better if Janza calls his squad after the Under-20 leaves for Senegal,” he said.
Mwamelo said it would also prove difficult for Janza to call for camping because that will also disturb clubs who are preparing for the 2015 MTN-FAZ Premier League soccer as the coaches would want to have all their players in camp.
