ZESCO United coach George Lwandamina says Nkana gave them the best possible test ahead of Saturday’s CAF 2015 Champions League match against Mbabane Swallows.
The 2015 MTN/FAZ Super League champions beat Nkana 5-4 on post-match penalties after a 1-1 draw in the Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield semi-finals played at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
Zesco’s win came just five days before they host their Swaziland opponents in a preliminary round, final leg tie in Ndola tied at 1-1.
“It was a good game and it has given us leverage for our next game, it was good training,” Lwandamina said in a post-match interview on Sunday at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
Meanwhile, Power Dynamos assistant coach Anderson Phiri has said the win over Zanaco was a big relief ahead of this Sunday’s 2015 Confederation Cup home clash against Al Khartoum of Sudan.
The Kitwe side beat Zanaco 1-0 in the other Charity Shield semi-final at Arthur Davies Stadium in to pick up their first competitive win from two games this year.
Phiri said in an interview that the win was just what Power needed ahead of their preliminary round final leg match against the Sudanese club.
“It was a good preparation and a good morale booster for the boys. We prepared according to how we planned for the continental game next week,” he said.
Power secretary Ricky Mamfunda said Al Khartoum, who are carrying a 1-0 lead, arrive tomorrow at Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola and will be lodged at Moba Hotel.
Winner over both legs will play either Polisi of Zanzibar or Gabonese club CF Mounana, who are enjoying a 5-0 lead, in the first round, first leg away during the weekend of March 13-15
