ZAMPOST has extended its civil servants payment system to rural districts in Western and North-Western provinces.
The Civil Servants Salary Payment project was approved by Cabinet in 2013 and it is licensed by the Bank of Zambia
The vision of the project is to provide convenience to civil servants, especially those serving in the rural parts of the country where there are no banking services.
It is also intended to provide an alternative salary payment service in urban areas.
This payment system is currently servicing civil servants in Northern, Luapula and Muchinga provinces to receive their salaries.
Director of operations Alex Mayeya said in an interview that Zampost had this year extended the project to western and North-western provinces.
He said more than 800 civil servants were currently receiving salaries through the post office.
“We are now in Sioma and Shangombo districts in Western Province. This month, we are rolling out the project to Ikelenge, Mufumbwe, Kasempa and other parts of North-Western Province,” he said.
Mr Mayeya said Zampost was receiving overwhelming response from civil servants in all its operational areas.
He noted that the payment system had improved the efficiency of teachers and nurses because it saved them from travelling long distances to access their salaries.
Mr Mayeya added that Government had so far helped to rehabilitate and upgrade a number of post offices countrywide to facilitate the civil servants payment system.
He said Government was this year targeting to rehabilitate 30 rural post offices countrywide
