MUTHIYA NewBy FELIX MALUNGA –

ZAMBIA’S golf sensation, Madalitso Muthiya on Sunday finished in joint 49th at the Dimension Data Pro-Am in South Africa after shooting four-over-par 293 at Montagu Golf Course in Fancourt.
Muthiya, who fired three-over-par 75 on the final day, tied with Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Gonnet, South Africa’s Ulrich van den Berg and two English players, Steve Surry and Phillip Archer.
On the opening day, Muthiya carded an impressive three-under-par 69 but messed up his game in the second round with a 75 and combined it with a 74 in the third round.
For all his troubles in this tournament won by South African, Branden Grace, who carded 11-under-par 278, the Lusaka Golf Club player earned himself R19,125 (about K11,475).
However, luck was not on another Zambian Dayne Moore as he failed to make a cut to the final after a bad performance which saw him end up on 22-over-par 239 at the end of three rounds.
Moore will try to revive his fortunes today when he participates in the Johannesburg Open Qualifier at Glendower Golf Club.
The Ndola golfer will compete for a place in the Johannesburg Open proper alongside compatriot Bruce Chanda and join Muthiya, who already secured his path to the event to be held at the Royal Johannesburg and Kensington Golf Club from February 26 to March 1.
