LLOYD Mwale retained his position as Nakambala Leopards Football Club chairperson after beating Philemon Mbewe during an elective Annual General Meeting at the weekend.
The elections held at the Nakambala Community Hall on Sunday in Mazabuka saw Mwale poll 46 votes as against 39 for Mbewe in a tightly contested election that also saw four other members bounce back to serve for another two-year mandate.
Former club secretary, Obet Habasimbi was elected vice chairperson taking over from Augustine Siangandu, who declined to re-contest the position. Habasimbi won by seven votes to defeat Jon Walter Nindi who got 39 votes.
There were no changes in the secretariat as Sam Mandunga went unopposed following the disqualification of Amon Hamilimo, who was dropped for without giving a reason.
Mandunga’s vice, Alex Nyirenda retained his seat after polling 48 votes beating Oscar Chanda on 37 while Lloyd Shanzuwa was unopposed as vice treasurer.
Bernard Kalyata and Rodrick Kabundu lost their positions as committee members and replaced by Samson Mchilwa and Chalama Nyanga, who is the only lady in the committee, while Clement Gumbo was re-elected.
Meanwhile, Mwale thanked the members for giving him another mandate to preside over the affairs of the club. He promised to work to the best of his ability to honour the confidence they had in him.
Mwale vowed to steer Nakambala to the MTN-FAZ Super Division title as the club had what is required to play continental football next year.
Zambia Sugar community development manager Gilbert Chiota said the company was happy and proud of the football club’s determination to record good results this season.
Chiota, who pledged Zambia Sugar’s continued support, urged the club officials and supporters to continue working together and aim at performing far much better than last season.
