SIXTEEN people, who were admitted to Ndola Central Hospital (NCH) after being involved in a road accident on Monday, have been discharged.
The accident happened when a Mazhandu bus carrying the sixteen and one other person, overturned at Kasongo area near Luanshya turnoff on the Ndola-Kitwe dual carriageway.
The bus was moving from Ndola to Kitwe and when it reached Kasongo, the speeding driver lost control as the road was slippery after heavy rain. Among the 16 survivors was a seven-month-old baby boy.
One of the passengers died on the spot after jumping out of the vehicle before it crushed him.
NCH public relations officer Sheona Chalimbana said in an interview yesterday that the 16 people had all been discharged by midday.
“All the victims have been discharged after receiving medical attention while the body of the deceased is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem,” Ms Chalimbana said.
The driver of the bus, identified as Lonny Kalyanjele 58, of Chawama Township in Lusaka, has since been charged with one count of causing death by dangerous driving and will appear in court soon.
