POWER Dynamos coach Tennant Chilumba is upbeat about overturning Saturday’s CAF 2015 Confederation Cup 1-0 away loss to Al Khartoum in a fortnight’s time.
Al Khartoum beat Power in Khartoum in the two side’s preliminary round, first leg match.
A 20th minute goal from Camerounian and ex-Cotonsport striker Camilo Dauda handed the Sudanese club the vital home win after beating Power’s offside trap.
Dauda was again on target two minutes later but his effort was disallowed.
“We have lost but not out. We will go flat out in search of a goal at home, from the first whistle. We gave away a cheap goal, I always emphasize to the boys to play to the whistle, but I am pleased with the performance,” Chilumba said.
Al Khartoum coach Kwesi Appiah said the job was half done and that there was still more to play for Kitwe.
An away draw in Kitwe for Al Khartoum will be enough to see them through to the first round.
“The most important thing was not to concede a goal and another important thing was scoring here,” Appiah, an ex-Ghana coach, said.
Meanwhile, Power returned home yesterday with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) tipping the Kitwe side to progress to the first round of the competition despite suffering defeat.
FAZ treasurer Kelvin Mutafu said at the Simon Mwansa Kapwepwe International Airport in Ndola yesterday that he was confident that Power were capable of overturning a goal deficit.
Mutafu, who was delegation leader, urged Power to put the defeat behind them and focus on the return leg as team’s chances of advancing to the next stage are high.
He praised Al Khartoum officials for the hospitality accorded to the Zambian team in the run up to the game.
“We have no complaints in terms of how the we were kept in Sudan and I would like to thank Al Khartoum officials for the gesture. This is how it should be in modern football,” Mutafu said.
Power will host Al Khartoum at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe on March 1, needing a 2-0 home win to advance to the first round of the competition.
Winner over both legs will play either Polisi of Zanzibar or Gabonese club CF Mounana in the first round, first leg away in mid-March.
