COMMUNITY Development, Mother and Child Health Minister Emerine Kabanshi says the Government will continue fighting HIV and AIDS in order to reach the target of zero new infections.
Ms Kabanshi said Government has since improved infrastructure by building and equipping new health facilities and had doubled the procurement of anti retroviral drugs (ARVs).
She was speaking during the commemoration of the International Condom Day in Lusaka yesterday.
Ms Kabanshi said the theme ‘Condoms are cool’ encouraged both young and old to use the contraceptive wisely to prevent them from contracting HIV, sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies.
She said the use of the condoms went beyond the prevention of the disease but also allowed one to have a peace of mind without any worries.
She commended AIDS Health Care Foundation (AHF) Zambia for spearheading the commemoration of the International Condom Day in Zambia.
Ms Kabanshi said HIV and AIDS could be combated through concerted efforts of partnerships.
She said the Government would continue to provide necessary leadership, infrastructure, medical personnel, health services and medicines to ensure quality health.
AHF programme manager Victoria Kalota said her organisation was pleased to be associated with a noble cause of reaching the people of Zambia with access to HIV health services.
Ms Kalota said AHF supported treatment clinics in the country and was treating and caring for nearly 20,000 HIV patients.
She said the foundation had reached 27,301 Zambians with HIV treatment from 2004 to 2014.
