ZAMBIA Under-17 soccer coach Chris Kaunda says his charges are going to the Niger Africa Junior Championship (AJC) to qualify to the Chile World Cup.
Kaunda told journalists in Lusaka yesterday before departure for Niger that the boys were ready to bring the African trophy home.
He said the team had prepared adequately for the continental championship and would not disappoint the ever-supportive Zambians.
“We are going to the AJC to win the trophy and qualify to the Chile World Cup. I am very positive we will make it,” he said.
Kaunda said Zambia would not be intimidated by any team because all the players participating were debutants at the AJC.
He said he believed in his players’ ability to bring glory to Zambia as they had shown the potential through out their preparations.
“All players in Niger will be debutants because they are all participating in AJC for the first time. We have the likes of Nigeria who were once World Champions but it’s a different team that will be representing Nigeria this year,” he said.
Kaunda further asked Zambians to pray for the team as it competes for the AJC title which kick-off tomorrow.
He said it was optimistic the team would reach the semi finals before vying for the top prize.
Captain Patson Daka assured that the team would bring glory to Zambia as every player was ready for the challenge.
Daka said his team mates were anxious to participate in the AJC and they wouls ensure they record good results in each game.
