CHIPOLOPOLO coach Honour Janza has described striker Emmanuel Mayuka’s probable long-term absence from football due to injury as a great concern.
Mayuka is expected to be out of action for the foreseeable future due to a groin injury he sustained at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Equatorial Guinea.
Meanwhile, the Chipolopolo has fallen 10 places on the latest FIFA Coca-Cola world rankings released yesterday.
Janza said in an interview yesterday that he was worried about Chipolopolo’s swelling casualty list after Mayuka joined midfielder Nathan Sinkala on the sidelines.
Sinkala was the first casualty after sustaining a knee injury at the AFCON on January 18 in Chipolopolo’s opening Group B match against DR Congo that has seen him sidelined for four week.
Four days later, Mayuka too suffered an injury in Chipolopolo’s penultimate Group B match against Tunisia and he is set for surgery shortly.
Janza said with the 2017 AFCON qualifiers set to start in June, he was hoping some some goods over the next three months.
Meanwhile, Zambia has dropped places on the latest FIFA rankings released yesterday.
This is after the Chipolopolo’s showing at the 2015 AFCON where they exited the competition at the group stage, bottom of Group B on two points.
