DISTRICT Commissioners (DCs) and other civil servants have been urged to make Government programmes more visible to people across the country.
Foreign Affairs Minister Harry Kalaba said the Patriotic Front (PF) Government had done a lot to foster development across Zambia and hence it was important for DCs and civil servants to make such projects more visible to the local people.
Mr Kalaba noted that some senior Government officials had a tendency of hiding information from the public which prompted some sections of society to think that the PF administration was doing nothing to promote development.
He was speaking in Livingstone on Monday when he paid a courtesy call on Livingstone DC Omar Munsanje.
Mr Kalaba is currently in Livingstone a fact finding mission to ascertain the suitability and possibility of the Tourist Capital’s capacity to hold a summit for 10 African Heads of State in May this year.
The Summit, which is expected to attract about 1,000 delegates would discuss reforms for the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
“President Edgar Lungu is extremely in a hurry to foster development in all parts of Zambia. The presidential by-election is now over and those who want to politick can remain behind politicking.
“DCs and other civil servants are expected to carry out Government mandate very well and we expect the people who work in the hospitals or district administration or provincial administration to work hard,” Mr Kalala said.
He said he was extremely confident that development in Livingstone and Southern Province would be spearheaded under President Lungu’s administration.
“Some opposition political parties are saying the PF has done nothing and yet we have done many things to develop the country.
“If you take 27 years of UNIP as well as 20 years of MMD and the more than three years of PF in Government, you will discover that we have interrogated every sector and promoted development in all sectors of the economy compared to other former ruling parties,” Mr Kalaba said.
Mr Munsanje said his administration would ensure that all programmes as well as projects in Zambia’s tourist capital were done in line with Government policy.
