PARAMOUNT Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba speaking people has said being recognised by President Edgar Lungu has freed him to work and support national development programmes.
Paramount Chief Chitimukulu of the Bemba says it was difficult for him to work and facilitate development in his chiefdom before he was handed the instruments of power by President Edgar Lungu.
The Mwine Lubemba made the remarks when Mungwi District Commissioner Joyce Chanda paid a courtesy call on him at his palace today.
He told the DC that lack of a bank and a filling station was affecting the rapid growth of Mungwi District hence required the support of every stakeholder to address the situation.
Mwine Lubemba also said the current situation where civil servants in Mungwi were receiving their salaries from Kasama needed to be resolved by urgently setting -up a bank so that money could be retained in the district to boost development.
There was need to open-up local investment in the business sector so that people could be allowed to set-up shopping malls in the area which could be a catalyst for reducing poverty and creation of jobs in the district.
The Paramount Chief Chitimukulu said there was need to revisit boundaries to ascertain the areas which need to be exploited for development.
Mungwi District Commissioner Joyce Chanda thanked President Lungu for according Henry Kanyanta Sosala instruments of power as Mwine Lubemba.
Ms Chanda said it was equally difficult for the district to move towards development in the absence of the Paramount chief.
The DC said the district administration faced challenges in making consultations on matters that needed the input of Mwine Lubemba adding that now that he has ascended to the throne development would be easy to undertake in the district.
