By SYLVESTER MWALE –
PATRIOTIC Front (PF) secretary general Davies Chama says Kasama Central Member of Parliament (MP) Geoffrey Mwamba will be slapped with new disciplinary charges this week for de-campaigning the ruling party prior to last month’s presidential election.
Mr Mwamba rebelled against the ruling party and elected to back opposition UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema ahead of the January 20 presidential election.
It will be the second time that he would be facing disciplinary charges after the party leadership in Northern Province last year recommended for his expulsion from the party for alleged indiscipline and insubordination.

Mr Mwamba, who is fondly known as GBM was however, granted an injunction by Lusaka High Court judge Nicola Sharpe Phiri which restrained the party from dismissing him. The matter is yet to be disposed of.
But Mr Chama said Mr Mwamba committed a different offence by supporting and campaigning for Mr Hichilema prior to last month’s presidential election and would be dealt with accordingly.
“GBM went to court despite claiming that he is a popular figure in the party,” Mr Chama said in an interview during the week. “But that was on a different case which is still in court.
“He committed a different offence by supporting the opposition party during the campaigns for the January elections and he will face a different case which I will be announcing next week (this week).”
Mr Chama said no one was indispensable and the ruling party would ensure that every member abides by the party rules and regulations.
When contacted, Mr Mwamba said he was in a meeting in South Africa and would only comment on Wednesday when he returns.
Mr Chama also announced that Chongwe MP Sylvia Masebo had continued to undermine the ruling party even after the election.
The party chief executive officer said Ms Masebo would also soon face a disciplinary hearing because she had continued to campaign for the UPND even when the elections were over.
The Chongwe lawmaker was suspended after she and other members led a group of rebels to hold a second PF general conference in Kabwe which elected Matero MP Miles Sampa as party leader.
This was 24 hours after the legally recognised general conference had already elected Edgar Lungu as president of the party and candidate in the last month’s presidential election.
