By SYLVESTER MWALE –
THE International Police (Interpol) has issued a red notice for the arrest of two Zambians who escaped in Zimbabwe after being found with explosives in December last year.
Luke Chisale, 30, and his colleague Jeremiah Musandu are wanted by security authorities in Harare to face charges of possessing explosives without permission as well as illegal entry into Zimbabwe.
Interpol, which has published details of the two Zambians on its website, said the duo was born in Lusaka and speaks Tonga and English.
The international police said the Chisale and Musandu who are also facing charges of theft are wanted by judicial authorities in Harare for prosecution and possibly serve the jail sentence over the offences.
The portraits of the two have not been published on the website but Interpol has called on anyone with information about the two to report to the local or national police.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda also confirmed the issuance of the red notice, saying the explosives were found in the hotel room where the two had lodged during their visit to Harare.
“They wanted to use the explosives to break the safe which contained money but they failed and just ended up stealing the camera,” Ms Chanda said. “But they were arrested before running away from the police.”
The international police have also issued a red notice for the arrest of a 41-year-old Zambian who is wanted in Botswana for obtaining money by false pretences.
Maybin Sichilongo who is believed to be from Nakonde is said to have disappeared after being slapped with the offence in Gaborone last year.
The issuance of the red notice for the arrest of Chisale and Musandu brings the number of Zambians wanted in Zimbabwe to three.
This was after a red notice was issued by Interpol for the arrest of another 28-year-old Zambian suspected to have been involved in a string of thefts in Zimbabwe.
The man, only identified as Simulata, is said to have eluded the Police dragnet in Zimbabwe for a long time, a situation that has forced authorities to seek the intervention of Interpol.
The new arrivals on the Interpol wanted list brings the number of Zambians to 10 after the international police published details of others who are wanted in Botswana as well as in Zambia.
There are five Zambians wanted in Botswana although one of them was recently arrested in Livingstone and has since started appearing in court over illegal trade of ivory.
