By MOSES CHIMFWEMBE –
APATHY has marred the Zambia Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (ZBBFF) nominations ahead of its elective annual general meeting (AGM) set for tomorrow in Lusaka.
As of deadline day on Wednesday, only Clement Chimuka of T and T Gymnasium had filed in his nominations to challenge incumbent Danny Mkandawire for the presidency.
Mkandawire, vice president Brown Ng’ambi and treasurer Danny Sichilima are the only incumbent leaders, who filed in nominations before the initial deadline on January 30 ahead of the elections to be held at National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka.
Despite the federation extending day of submissions to February 4, members have not shown willingness to vie for the remaining positions.
Mkandawire said yesterday that the meeting will consider submissions on the actual day for the position that have not been contested for.
“It is unfortunate that people seem not to be interested in contesting for various positions in the federation, as the incumbent we have done best to accommodate for submissions by extending the date for the nominations,” he said.
Mkandawire said the fact that ZBBFF will not extend nomination date does not mean it cannot accept submissions on the actual voting day.
“We will allow those who will be ready to contest for the positions stand, if that fails then the new executive committee will appoint officials to fill up the vacant positions,” Mkandawire said.
Meanwhile, Mkandawire slammed affiliates for shunning the polls saying it was lack of commitment for the sport.
He said the bodybuilding sport can only be enhanced with concerted efforts from all members.
“People are not showing interest in vying for positions because they are fully are that serving in the executive committee is purely voluntary and out of passion for the sport,” he said.
