A ZESCO employee in Monze District has died after being electrocuted while working on a transformer on the Monze-Livingstone power lines.
Kelvin Sitamu, 41, a Zesco lines man, of Monze Site and Service Township, met his fate on Monday around 09:20 hours.
His body was said to have stuck to the transformer after he was electrocuted.
Southern Province Police Chief, Mary Chikwanda confirmed the incident in an interview in Choma yesterday.
Ms Chikwanda said the matter was reported to police by Monze Zesco area manager Clement Kuyela that Mr Sitamu was electrocuted and died on the spot.
She said Mr Sitamu, who was accompanied by his colleagues, was installing a Zesco transformer on the East side of Manungu Township on the newly constructed housing units.
“In the process, he was electrocuted while on top of the transformer and he died on the spot,” she said.
She said police rushed to the scene and managed to retrieve the body.
In another incident, a student at Mukwela Youth Resource Centre in Kalomo has died on the spot after being electrocuted in a pool of water in which a Zesco pylon had fallen.
Passmore Siachinji, 22, got electrocuted on Sunday around 20:00 hours when he stepped in a pool of water that had a live power cable after a Zesco pole collapsed following a heavy down pour.
Ms Chikwanda said the matter was reported to police by Mukwela Youth Resource Centre manager Sylvester Singani that Mr Siachinji was electrocuted upon stepping in a pool of water.
