BADMINTON Zambia (BZ) needs K30,000 to send a five-member team to the Uganda International Championship that will be staged in Kampala from February 19 to 22.
The team comprises Chongo Mulenga, Elizabeth Chipelemo, Jennifer Phiri, Ogar Siamupangila and her sister Evelyn.
BZ general secretary Kingsley Mulenga appealed to the corporate world to assist the association in realising the funds.
Mulenga said the Uganda International Championship was an important outing as it would also count for the players’ quest to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
“Each player in the team will require about K5, 500 to make the trip to Uganda and that brings us about K30, 000 for all the players, so we are appealing for help from the well wishers so that the team can fulfil the outing,” Mulenga said.
He said BZ was also making efforts to see to it that budding star Kalombo Mulenga defended his Under-15 Africa title at the junior tournament billed for Cairo, Egypt on April 19.
“As we seek to raise money for the Uganda trip, we are mindful that there will be the Under-15 championship and therefore preparations must begin because we have to send at least four players to represent the country,” he said.
Meanwhile, BZ will today hold its annual general meeting at Zamsure club in Lusaka.
The meeting is aimed at reviewing the association’s performance in 2014 and planning ahead for this year’s sporting calendar.
