THE German Chancellor Angela Merkel has praised Zambia for holding peaceful and democratic elections.
Ms Merkel in her congratulatory message to President Edgar Lungu on his election said the people of Zambia once again testified to the country’s long tradition of democracy by holding peaceful elections.

“In your inaugural speech, you set important priorities by focusing on the topics of economic diversification, the eradication of poverty and the further strengthening of good governance. Rest assured that Germany will continue to stand by your country as a reliable partner,” she said.
German President Joachim Gauck also said he wanted to see President Lungu successful in his tenure of office so that Zambia could develop and continue being democratic.
Mr Gauck said important tasks lay ahead of Mr Lungu and that he was wishing him and the Zambian people continued success in the stable and democratic development of Zambia.
He said he was wishing Mr Lungu courage, creativity and success in exercising the responsibilities of his office.
