FEMALE top seed Ogar Siamupangila is among the three Zambian players that will compete in the Uganda Badminton International Championship slated February 19 to 22 in Kampala.
Badminton Zambia (BZ) technical director Kenny Sivile named the other two players as Mulenga Chongo and Ogar’s sister, Evelyn.
Sivile said the Uganda tournament is being used as a qualifier to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
He said Africa has been given six qualifying slots and thus urged the players amass as many points as possible to keep alive hopes of earning qualification.
“We managed to win bronze at the Botswana International Championship, but that came after we performed badly during the Zambia and South Africa events. This puts us in a tough position especially that there are only six places available for Africa.
The players need to up their game by performing well to earn more points if they are to qualify for the Olympic Games,” he said.
He said the players were good players capable of upsetting tables in Uganda but urged them to remain focussed for them to realise their dream.
