BY SYLVIA MWEETWA –

A FORTY-SIX-YEAR-OLD prisoner who was among the over 100 prisoners released last week has appealed to his fellow prisoners to seriously consider going for Voluntary Counselling and Testing (VCT) if they are to receive help .
Moses Musonda further claimed that the number of prisoners dying at Mukobeko Maximum Prison has drastically reduced compared to the past years.
Musonda was facing a 15 -year jail sentence for defilement but walked to freedom last week when he was freed with others on medical grounds.
Mr Musonda was speaking in an interview following his release from prison and further urged his fellow prisoners who are on medication not to stop the treatment based on religious beliefs.
He explained that he discovered that he was HIV positive while in prison and that it took time to accept his situation but with counseling and good diet within the prison he managed to live.
He paid tribute to the prisons command and the government for supporting the VCT programmes in prisons and that the reduction of deaths of prisons was as a result of programmes that had been put in place.
