A South African has been evicted from Zambia after gaining employment without a work permit.
Dewet Cornelius Down, 59 entered Zambia as an ordinary visitor on January 6, 2015 but later found employment at Katoka Mema Gold Mine in Kasempa.
Mr Down was arrested from his work premises and was evicted from the country after paying a court fine of K2,000 pronounced by the Solwezi Magistrate Court which convicted and sentenced him on Monday.
Immigration Department public relations manager Namati Nshinka confirmed this in a statement yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Solwezi regional immigration office has arrested a Chinese for working without a Zambian permit.

“Meanwhile, the Chipata regional immigration office removed eight Malawians from the country while at Kasumbalesa, eight Congolese were also ejected,” Mr Nshinka added.
