PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president, Edgar Lungu has assured the European Union (EU) delegation in Zambia that the PF will run a clean Government and root out corruption once re-elected into office this month.
Mr Lungu yesterday held closed-door talks with the EU delegation to discuss, among other things, the country’s peace, the campaigns and a free and fair transition of power.
He said he would ensure that public funds were prudently utilised and that scarce resources reached vulnerable Zambians.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting yesterday, Mr Lungu said he would maintain the current Cabinet and senior Government officials once elected as president in the forthcoming election.
He said he would continue working towards the noble goal of implementing party policies with the same team but cautioned that he would only make changes in an event they failed him.
Mr Lungu said it was important to maintain the same people and projects as one year was little time to reinvent the wheel.
“The meeting went on well, we discussed how the country was fairing in the campaigns and what would happen after the election, among a number of things on the agenda. Continuity with the same team is important, I will continue with the current administration as there is less time to change things but will only make minor changes if they fail me,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a media statement issued by the Edgar Lungu PF media team, the PF leader assured the diplomatic corps that the ruling party would secure foreign investment, especially in the mining sector if elected.
Mr Lungu, who was confident of winning the election, said he would sustain security, good governance and the rule of law, and would prioritise areas of production in the mining and agriculture sectors and continue with the road and infrastructure projects.
“Crop and economic diversification shall be encouraged under the PF leadership. We also want to maintain peace both at regional and continental levels,” he said.
The EU delegation was pleased that the PF leader met them to discuss matters of national importance as cooperating partners.
