THE United Church of Zambia (UCZ) officially commenced celebrations for 50 years of Union at Arcades Shopping Centre in Lusaka yesterday.
Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata said the church had over the years played an important role in partnering with the Government to advance development.
Mr Sata said this through a statement by Deputy Mayor Portipher Tembo during the commencement of celebrations.
He was satisfied with the cordial relationship between the church and Government, especially with regards to the provision of education and health services through facilities the UCZ had established.
Mr Sata urged the church to continue partnering with the Government in addressing various challenges that the communities faced such as gender-based violence and a breakdown in the family support systems, as they entered the next phase of their 50 years.
