16 Ethiopians nabbed

THE Immigration Department has arrested 16 Ethiopians who were found locked in a Nakonde house belonging to a suspected human trafficker, Justin Sikazwe.
The Ethiopians who were arrested in Nakonde are aged between 16 and 22 years.
The immigration officers were led to the house by a named Zambian.
Mr Sikazwe was not found at the time of the raid but the 16 Ethiopians were discovered after the immigration officers compelled Mr Sikazwe’s wife to open the door to the house.
Immigration public relations officer Namati Nshinka said the Zambian who led the officers to the house is currently being questioned while Mr Sikazwe is being pursued.
In another development, the immigration in Chirundu has detained two Congolese, one for using a forged Congolese passport and another for using a passport belonging to another person.
Meanwhile, the Magistrates’ Court in Chingola on Monday, December 30, 2014 convicted and sentenced a Chinese to a fine of K3,000 or in default six months simple imprisonment for unlawful stay.
He has since paid the fine and arrangements are being made to deport him from the country.
In another development, the Kasama regional immigration office removed five Tanzanians from the country.
“We would like to appeal to members of the public not to relent in reporting any suspicious persons or groups of persons especially those found in unusual locations and circumstances to the nearest immigration office,” he said.
