A FORTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD Ndola-based pastor has died after being severely beaten by a man and his two sons following a dispute over a piece of land in Kitwe.
The man, his two sons and the pastor clashed over a piece of land both parties claimed to own in Ipusukilo Township.
Following an argument over ownership, the man and his two sons descended on the clergyman, beating him brutally.
Copperbelt Deputy Police Commissioner Mukuka Chewe yesterday confirmed the killing, which happened on Tuesday, and named the pastor as Reuben Mwasha of Pamodzi Township in Ndola, a reverend at a Baptist Church.
Mr Chewe said Rev Mwasha around 09:30 hours went to inspect a plot and, while there, Musonda Katongo, 59, and his sons, Osward, 25, and his sibling only identified as Katongo, 22, came over and picked up a quarrel over ownership of the piece of land.
“After arguing, a fight erupted and the man with his two sons ganged up and started beating the pastor,” Mr Chewe said.
He said by the time members of the public came through to stop the fight, it was too late as the pastor had already sustained a severe beating.
Mr Chewe said efforts to save the pastor’s life by rushing him to Kitwe Central Hospital proved futile as he died soon after.
The three attackers were apprehended and taken to police.
