THE Zambia Prisons Service says George Mpombo, Stephen Masumba and eight others were pardoned by acting President Guy Scott because they exhibited good behaviour while in prison.
Dr Mpombo, Mr Masumba, who is Mufumbwe Member of Parliament, and eight other inmates were pardoned on Christmas Day.
Commissioner of Prisons Percy Chato said the eight other prisoners who benefitted from the Presidential amnesty are female who were serving sentences at Kabwe Maximum female prisons for various offences.
Mr Chato named the eight pardoned female prisoners as Dorothy Chanda, Margret Njovu, Maggie Mate and Ireen Chibwe, Catherine Matesu, Joyce Chanda, Elizabeth Mfula and Naluna Munalula.
Mr Chato said in an interview when he toured Kamfinsa State Prisons in Kitwe yesterday that the eight pardoned women were also of elderly age.
The eight were considered for Presidential pardoning because of their good behaviour while serving their sentences.
Dr Mpombo was serving his nine months jail sentence at Lusaka Central Prison while Mr Masumba was released from Mwembeshi Maximum Prison.
