A-THIRTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD man in Mansa on Christmas Day committed suicide after being denied his preferred share of a pig that his young brother had slaughtered for a meal.
Eness Musonda, of Kasonka Village in Chief Chimense’s area, hanged himself around 14:00 hours on Wednesday after he was only offered the animal’s head as his share.
Mr Musonda’s young brother Francis, 28, was given a pig as part of his payment for some communal work done within the village.
When Francis slaughtered the pig, Eness demanded for a significant share but he was given the animal’s head.
Eness was not happy with this and caused havoc, making most family members to flee the house.
He hanged himself to a mango tree and was found in a kneeling position, with his tongue protruding.
Luapula Province police commissioner Malcom Mulenga said that this was not the first time that Eness attempted to commit suicide and his family did not suspect any foul play.
“Hence they have been advised to bury the body and mark the grave,” Mr Mulenga said.
Meanwhile, a man of Shampande Township in Choma was on Wednesday discovered dead near his home.
Police suspect that the man, in his 70s, could have been on medication or had been to the clinic because he was found with tablets in his pockets.
Southern Province Police Chief Mary Chikwanda said police picked up the body on Wednesday around 15:30 hours.
“The body had no physical injuries but tablets were found on him and we suspect he was either on medication or was coming from the clinic,” she said.
