THE Zambia Football Coaches Association of Zambia (ZAFCA) says Honour Janza has picked a formidable side that was capable of winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.
ZAFCA vice-president Lewis Shambulo said yesterday described the 27-member provisional squad as balanced owing to the inclusion of young and energetic as well as experienced players.
“This is a good team that Janza has named with players that are full of zeal to excel at the top level and we have no doubt that they have all it takes to stand the pressure that comes with playing at the AFCON tournament,” Shambulo said.
The 2012 champions open the AFCON tournament with a Group B clash against the Leopards of Congo DR on January 18 at Estadio de Ebebiyin before facing Tunisia at the same venue four days later and conclude the phase with a date against the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde on January 26.
Chipolopolo Soccer fans Association (CSFA) chairperson, Yotam Mwanza said Janza had taken a bold decision to give an opportunity to players to feature for the continental football showpiece.
Mwanza urged players to payback the trust that Janza has shown in them by shining at the tournament.
“The squad looks good especially that most of the players have shown that they are worth playing in the AFCON tournament and I think they should rise up to the challenge and perform as expected,” Mwanza said.
Zambia Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) chairman Peter Makembo said the squad is strong enough to bring back the trophy to Southern Africa.
The full provisional squad that is set to camp in South Africa has goalkeepers Danny Munyau (Red Arrows), Kennedy Mweene (Mamelodi Sundowns-South Africa), Toaster Nsabata (Nchanga Rangers) and Joshua Titima (Power Dynamos).
Defenders Donashano Malama and Christopher Munthali (Nkana), Bronson Chama (Red Arrows), Stopilla Sunzu (FC Sochaux), Aaron Katebe (Platinum FC-Zimbabwe), Emmanuel Mbola (Hapoel Ra’anana), Davies Nkausu (SuperSport) and Rodrick Kabwe (Zanaco).
Midfielders are Nathan Sinkala (Grasshopper-Switzerland), Chisamba Lungu (FC Ural-Russia), Mukuka Mulenga (Bloemfontein Celtic-South Africa), Kondwani Mtonga (North East United-India), Spencer Sautu (Napsa Stars), Rainford Kalaba (TP Mazambe-DR Congo), Bruce Musakanya (Red Arrows) and Lubambo Musonda (Ulisses-Armenia).
Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba (Nkana), Evans Kangwa (Hapoel Ra’anana), Given Singuluma (TP Mazembe), Emmanuel Mayuka (Southampton England), Jackson Mwanza (Zesco United), Patrick Ngoma (Red Arrows) and James Chamanga (Liaoning Whowin-China) are the strikers.
