IRATE residents of Racecourse Township in Kitwe ran amok at the weekend, smashing vehicles after a mini-bus ran over a 43-year-old pedestrian.
The residents were incensed by a lack of speed humps on the newly constructed Twatasha-Garneton Road, where the pedestrian was killed.
Deputy Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Mukuka Chewe named the pedestrian as Mordecai Yungana of 456 Racecourse.
He was hit by a Rosa minibus on Friday around 19:00 hours and just before midnight, residents took to the street stoning vehicles, while chanting for the immediate installation of speed humps on the road.
He said the minibus, registration number ACB 9283 was being driven by John Mwewa aged 34.
“They felt the pedestrian was killed because of lack of humps on the new Twatasha-Garneton Road,” he said.
Mr Chewe said about five vehicles were smashed in the fracas that went on to about midnight.
