MINEWORKERS Union of Zambia (MUZ) president Nkole Chishimba is the new Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) president after being elected at the quadrennial congress in Livingstone.
Mr Chishimba amassed 193 votes, in the polls that went up to the early hours of yesterday, to beat his closest contender Davy Chiyobe, who got 99 votes.
Newman Bubala of the Zambia National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) and National Energy Sector and Allied Workers Union (NESAWU)’s Manson Mutambo were elected as deputy presidents.
The secretary general position went to Cosmas Mukuka of the Basic Education Teachers Union of Zambia, who shook off a challenge from Peter Mwale after getting 235 votes, while his opponent got 56.
Deputy secretary positions went to Elaston Njobvu, for administration and organisation, and Misheck Nyambose for finance and business.
Others who were elected, were four trustees, Betty Mutambo, Sifuniso Nyumbu, Wadzanayi Pembere and Mathews Mwamba.
Outgoing president Leonard Hikaumba and secretary general Roy Mwaba did not re-contest their positions.
