By SANDRA MWILA –
COACH Honour Janza has said his focus at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals will be to build a strong Chipolopolo team capable of conquering the continent in future tournaments.
Janza said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that while winning the AFCON would be good for Zambia, the main focus in Equatorial Guinea next month would be to build a new team that could win the continental championship by 2017.
“We are rebranding the Chipolopolo team and we will use the AFCON to help us come up with a strong team that will win us the trophy in 2017,”he said.
He said the Chipolopolo had new crop of players that the technical bench was blending with the old players to form a formidable squad.
“We have a set of young players with massive talent and the old crop of Chipolopolo with experience and if we can form a strong team we can win the 2017 Africa cup and onwards,” he said.
Janza, however, urged the players to apply themselves fully at the 2015 AFCON finals and get good results.
Meanwhile, Chipolopolo midfielder Chisamba Lungu said African football had no more underdogs, thus each team Zambia would face in Equatorial Guinea should be taken serious.
Lungu said Zambia’s Group B not an easy one and that the Chipolopolo should work as team to conquer Africa again.
“In football anything can happen, we should not underrate any team because every team put in their best to qualify,” Lungu, who was part of the 2012 AFCON winning team, said.
Zambia is in Group B with Tunisa, Cape Verde and Democratic Republic of Congo.
