A PEASANT farmer of Peatuke District has been sentenced to death by the Chipata High Court for hacking another man
Moses Ayenela Phiri 36, of Gideon Village of Chief Mwanjabathu was sentenced to death by High Court Judge Judith Mulongoti for killing Samora Zulu between August 27 and September 1, last year.
Njovu 18, Shamutete of Nzuni Village was also sentenced to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for being an accomplice in murdering Mr Zulu.
Phiri, Shamutete, Benard Tembo and Walaza Sakala Zulu were cagarged with murdering Mr Zulu by hacking him using an axe, hammer and a knife.
The court heard that Phiri masterminded the murder by organising Shamutete and Tembo to work together in killing Mr Zulu for flirting with Tembo’s wife.
After killing him, his body was later dumped in a well and that Shamutete fled to Mozambique.
The court heard that the assailants shared some goods which Mr Zulu had carried on a motorbike for business in villages.
However, Tembo and Zulu walked to freedom in the murder due to non-collaborating evidence.
