Despite government and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) warning schools against forcing parents to buy school uniforms from schools as a prerequisite for entry of new pupils, Chingola High School here in Chingola seems to be defying this warning. For grade eight pupils as an example, parents are being forced to buy a sweater at an exorbitant price of K85 while the same costs K60 in other shops. A shirt is fetching K50 instead of K30 or K35 from other sources.
Apart from a pair of trousers, it is compulsory to buy the said items from this school lest a place will not be guaranteed. As a concerned parent, I would like to appeal to the Government and CCPC to investigate my complaint and if proved valid penalise the said school for promoting unfair competition.
