A THIRTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD man in Mongu was seriously injured after a front-end loader accidentally scooped him up while he slept on a heap of sand meant for road works on the Mongu-Kalabo Road.
This happened in the early hours of yesterday morning after an excavator loader belonging to AVIC International Company was clearing the sand.
Nyambe Mutalifelile, in his drunken stupour, fell asleep on top of one of the heaps of sand meant for the Mongu-Kalabo Road construction near the Zambezi River.
Western Province Commissioner of Police Lombe Kamukoshi said the loader was operated by a Chinese identified as Fan Sheng, aged 42.
The operator only realised that he had hooked a man on the pan of the loader when he saw hands swinging half buried in the soil.
Mr Mutalifelile sustained a swollen chest, bruises and general body pains and was rushed to Lewanika General Hospital where he received medical attention.
Lewanika General Hospital acting medical superintendent Likambi Kambinda said the man was brought in around 01:20 hours but he ran away from the admission ward soon after receiving treatment. -ZANIS
